Watersports

Fuerteventura is considered as the Mecca of water sports and about 60.000 wind and wave hunters travel each year to the island in search of perfect conditions for their favorite sport. In fact, it is considered as one of the best places in Europe for heavy, uncrowded, world class waves. No wonder why the Canary Islands are known as the Hawaii of Europe.
The best season for surfers goes from September to May, whereas summer trade winds transform Fuerteventura in the ideal playground for kitesurfers and windsurfers. The overall variety of excellent conditions depending on the time of the year, from super flat shallow lagoons to full on wave spots, make this island a perfect destination to learn or improve your surfing, kiting and windsurfing.

The best kite locations on Fuerteventura can be found all over the North Shore, where Pro Training Fuerte is located, between Corralejo to the east and El Cotillo on the west coast. The area provides such a big variety of spots within only 30 km of distance that it is the ideal location for wave riders and freestylers. Sotavento and Esquinzo in the south are also good places known for its very strong winds.
As a matter of fact, every year, the island welcomes the best windsurfers and kitesurfers who come to compete for the world title of the PWA and PKRA world championships.
